License Application
Signage installations in Singapore may require licenses and applications for approval towards some of the governing agencies here. The main agencies in charge of the signs include LTA, URA and BCA. The governing aspects of each agency differs according to the location and size of the sign. LTA, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, is in charge of road signs, temporary and permanent, where the signs are directed towards drivers and would have to follow certain regulations and guidelines in the production of the sign.
URA, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore, is in charge of regulating the size, type of sign and installation method of the signs in specific areas around Singapore, the application to URA is usually required when the signage is produced for a shophouse unit in certain areas. BCA, the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, manages the size, safety and licensing requirements for signs that are put up anywhere. These signs have to comply to specific engineering guidelines and project documents have to be submitted to the BCA for approval.
Signs of 5 sqm and above will require a BCA license while smaller sizes may be allowed without approval. If your business is within areas with heavy air traffic, an approval from the CAAS may be required, the CAAS ensures that signs put up in areas close to airports be of a lower brightness to prevent complications towards aircrafts.
